We’re ready

The nursery has been painted. The crib is set up. We’ve got the changing table, the dresser, the rocker, and the car seat. We’ve completed the full Babies 101 curriculum and we’ve read piles of books. The travel bag is packed and waiting by the door. Tara’s feeling huge and she’s sick of her diet.

Come on baby. We’re ready.

Sudoku madness

So this one’s for Tara, my mom, and everyone else in the family who’s been obsessing with Sudoku lately: Visit Web Sudoku to play the game online at difficulty levels ranging from easy to “evil”.  There’s also a link to a free downloadable version of the game.

(And yes, a couple of Sudoku puzzle books are already in the overnight bag for when we finally head out to the hospital!).

All in the family

So my little sister and her husband have jumped on the digital band wagon and have started using Flickr to share photos with our family and friends. You can find their photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jogushenry. Here you’ll find pics of our new nephew, Henry. We’ve added my personal favorite (so far…he’s got a lot of growing to do) to our photo line-up. My, what blue eyes he has!

There must be something in the water

So now just about everyone we know either has a new baby, or has one on they way.  First Josie and Gus, then my buddy Erik Vedvik and his wife, and of course we’re in the middle of things.

But wait!  There’s more.  Many hearty congratulations go out to my cousin Dean and his wife Melinda, who just announced they’re pregnant!

Anyone who’s not looking to get pregnant should probably stay the heck away from northern Colorado at this point.

A wish is granted

Our little nephew Ben Steadman and his family have just left to start their Make-A-Wish vacation in sunny San Diego. As some of you probably know, last fall Ben was diagnosed with diffuse pontine glioma - an inoperable tumor in his brain stem. Since that time he’s undergone radiation treatment and is currently doing exceptionally well. Ben and his sister have been looking forward to the trip out to San Diego’s Wild Animal Park, Legoland, and Sea World for a long time, and the Make-A-Wish folks have done a fantastic job of bringing everything together and making it possible for Ben and more than twenty other members of our family to forget their cares for a while and frolic in southern California.  While they’re there they’ll also celebrate birthdays for my cousin Dean and Ben’s sister Madeline.

For our part, all we can do is be a little bit jealous, since we’re close enough to our due date that travelling far from home is no longer a great idea. But we’re with everyone in spirit, and hope that Ben and Madie and everyone else has a fantastic time!

Directions to the hospital

For those who don’t know, we’re planning on having the baby at Avista Hospital in Louisville.  That’s about a half an hour’s drive south of Longmont if you travel along Highway US-287.  Here’re are the directions provided by the hospital’s website, and here’s are some links to maps, so just pick your favorite maps site.

Maps: Yahoo! Maps or MapQuest or Google Maps

Onesies and binkies and blankets, oh my!

Thanks to everyone for the presents! We find ourselves awash in far too many ridiculously cute baby things after the showers my family and friends at work threw us.  Lots of girl clothes in there too, so here’s hoping!

Henry came to visit

My brand new nephew, Henry Brockmann, came over for a visit this evening.  Having never had much time to spend around wee babies, it was honestly quite a confidence-booster for me.  After his mom gave him a diaper change (Henry is not a big fan of diaper changes, let me tell you!) I was rather happy to able to successfully quiet the grumpy little chub down pretty quickly with a bit of rocking.

Sick and tired

So we’re nearing the end of things, and very much at the point where being pregnant is no longer much fun.  Well, add to that a vicious head and chest cold, and you’ve got one very unhappy wife.  Tara’s been sick as a dog for the past few days, and I’ve managed to catch the bug myself.  Blech.  So here’s the comeback to everyone who told us being pregnant in the winter was so much better than having to deal with the “awful” heat and humidity during the summer?
